The Republic of Korea (RoK) dominated the medal tally, bringing home
15 golds, seven silvers and five bronzes, followed by China (11 golds,
14 silvers and 10 bronzes) and Taiwan (three golds, one silver and one
bronze).
Five Asian records were broken at the championships by the RoK’s Kim
Gwangho in the men’s 50m and 100m surface bifins, Lee Kwaho in the men’s
50m surface (with snorkel) and the country’s team 4x100m surface relay,
while Taiwan’s Lee YeNi set a new record in the women’s 200m surface
bifins.
In the junior competitions held simultaneously with the Asian Championships, Vietnam
took the lead with 14 golds, four silvers and six bronzes. The RoK came
second with five golds, 10 silvers and nine bronzes, while China was
placed third with five golds, four silvers and one bronze.
The two competitions drew nearly 160 athletes from 11 countries and territories in the region, namely China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, the RoK, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
