- Brunei sent the smallest delegation among the Southeast Asian nations with 11 athletes while Thailand sent the biggest with 518 athletes.
- Laos and Singapore were the first two nations to compete among the Southeast Asian countries at the 17th Asian Games. They were also the first two to absorb defeats.
- Indonesia is the first nation from Southeast Asia to win an event at the 17th Asiad. They won 7-0 in Men's Football against Timor Leste. Vietnam's footballers also won the same day against Iran 4-1.
- Hoang Phuong Nguyen (Vietnam) is the first athlete among SEA athletes to capture a medal. He won in 50m Pistol Men's Event (Shooting). He is also the first double medalist among SEA athletes. He captured bronze medal in 50m Pistol Men's Team Event (Shooting) on the same day.
- Cheau Xuen Tai (Malaysia) is the first gold medalist among SEA athletes. She won in Women's Nanquan & Nandao All-Round. But the gold medal was also stripped from her after failure in the doping test. Juwita Niza Wasni of Indonesia was then promoted and awarded the gold medal.
- Joseph Isaac Schooling is the first ASEAN to win medal in swimming at the 17th Asiad. He also grabbed the three colored medals - the gold, silver and the bronze medals.
- Mohd Azizulhasni Bin Awang of Malaysia set an Asian Games record in the qualifying event of Men's 200m Flying Start (Cycling) -10.062s
- Myanmar is the first country to win multiple gold in one day among the SEA nations. They won two gold medals in Sepak Takraw in both Men's and Women's events.
- Thailand gets its first medal on the third day of competition. GULNOI Rattikan (Thailand) won bronze medal in Weightlifting - Women's 58kg.
- Thailand's first gold medal came from Bowling event. It was a 1-3 finished by Larp Apharat Yannaphon (1st) and Kunaksorn Sithiphol (3rd)
- Philippines' first medal was a silver medal by Daniel Parantac in Men's Taijiquan & Taijijian All-Round (Wushu).

- NGUYEN Thi Anh Vien (Vietnam) delivers the first medal in the history of swimming for Vietnam. She won the bronze medal in the Women's 400m Individual Medley event.
- Indonesia's first gold medal in Badminton came from Women's Doubles.

- Raynn Kwok of Singapore is the youngest medalist from Southeast Asia to win a medal. The 12-year old sailor won in the Optimist - Men's One Person Dinghy. He began sailing at age seven.
- Philippines' first gold medal was produced by Daniel Caluag in BMX Cycling event.
- Cambodia's first gold medal in the history of Asian Games was delivered by Seavmey Sorn in the women's -73 kg category of Taekwondo. She is the first Cambodian athlete to win medal in taekwondo at the Asian Games.
- Xuan Yi Jodie Lai of Singapore is the youngest athlete who won gold medal in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon.
- Jazreel Tan of Singapore is the most decorated athlete from Southeast Asia having 4 medals from bowling (1 Gold - 2 Silver - 1 Bronze) in 4 events.
- Brunei and Timor Leste did not get any medal in this edition of Asian Games.
- Thailand won the most number of medals in a day with 14 medals in 5 sports (September 30) among Southeast Asian nations.
