MNA Eye SEA Games Gold After Signing Coach From Australia

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 -- The Malaysian Netball Association (MNA) hope the appointment of head coach Tracy Robinson from Australia will pave the way to winning the SEA Games gold medal in 2017.

MNA president Datuk Suraya Yaacob said the association had identified 24 players to under centralised training camp while another 16 players would be roped in as sparing partners.

"Apart from the 24 players, an additional team of 16 players will act as their sparring partner. However, the final selection for the SEA Games team will be from the entire squad of 40 players," said Suraya after watching the National Junior Netball Championship final between Johor and Selangor, here Sunday.

Suraya said Robinson was appointed three months ago to transform the country's netball squad.

"We hope the presence of Robinson from Australia who are the world number one, can have a positive impact on the national squad," she said adding that Malaysia are currently ranked 22nd in the world.

Suraya said Malaysia's next major assignment will be the Asian Netball Championship in Bangkok in August.
