Is Singapore Ready for 2017 SEA Games Boxing?

Singapore boxing team is preparing for the August biennial meet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

As part of its preparation for SEA Games, team Singapore has recently joined the 3rd Hong Kong City Cup International Boxing Tournament 2017.

Of all the four boxers who had reached the finals of their respective categories, two boxers were successful in their campaign and won their respective categories. The final bouts were held last January 15 at the Boxing and Judo Room, Pei Ho Street Sports Centre.

2015 SEA Games bronze medalist Leong Jun Hao defeated Chinese Taipei's Mai Chia Hao in the finals of the light welterweight (64kg) category while 21-year old Sayyid Qabeer Shah Bin Mahmud also won in the finals by beating two-time Hong Kong City Cup winner Guo Yingjie from China.

Aside from Leong and Sayyid, other Singaporean boxer who made to the podium was Commonwealth Youth Games quarter-finalist Prithiv Raaj Elansharan. He was defeated by China's Wen Zifeng in the finals of light flyweight (49kg) category.
