All 11 nations who will be competing at the 29th South East Asian Games are busy gearing up in their training and preparation for this biennial event. And one of the sports to be featured at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games is basketball.

Two gold medals are at stake for the upcoming SEA Games. One in men's event and the other one is in women's event.

At the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore, the Philippines who won the gold medal in men's event sent their best college players with the addition of naturalized player Marcus Douthit. The team had a tough battles during the semi-final and in the gold medal matches.

But despite its difficult road to reach the gold medal, they still able to win the championship. The silver medal went to Indonesia while the bronze medal went to team Singapore.

In women's event, Malaysia won the gold medal followed by Indonesia and Thailand respectively.
At the coming 2017 SEA Games, the Philippines is still seen to be the team to beat for both events.

Its women team was recently crowned as the champion of the 9th SEABA Championship for women last year beating all the 2015 SEA Games teams who won medals and they recently progress to Level I status at the Asian women's championship.

Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are likely to be their tough rivals for the gold medal at the 2017 SEA Games.

As for its men's team, a mixed of amateur and professional basketball players are said to suit up the team. The team's focus is to beat its improving neighboring countries in SEA Games and in qualifying SEA zone tournament in order to advance at the 2017 FIBA-Asia Championship.

This will be a tough one for Philippine team because some SEA nations are really catching up with them. Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore are still the teams who can steal the SEA Games men's basketball title.
