Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships 2017

The Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships 2017 was held from February 24 to March 5 in Korat, Thailand. Our Southeast Asian fencers from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and host Thailand participated in this Asian tournament. And some of them were very successful in their campaign.

Singapore made some surprises and podium places as they haul one gold and six bronze medals in Korat tournament. 

Making name for Singapore is Esther Shi Ning Lai who captured the gold medal in the women's epee of the junior division. She bested fifty-four other fencers from Asia and Australia. Not only that, she also won bronze medal in the same event in the cadet category. Also adding to her triumph in Korat, she is one of the team members who won bronze medal in epee team event for the cadet category. She is the only Southeast Asian athlete to win three medals in this tournament.

Aside from the cadet women's epee team event, Singapore's women fencers won bronze medal in cadet's sabre team event. And completing the other bronze medalists who gave honour for Singapore were
Darren Jun Hao Tan in cadet boy's foil event, Maxine Jie Xin Wong in cadet women's foil event and Ywen Lau cadet women's sabre event. 

Aside from Singapore, Vietnam also made its presence in the tournament by snatching bronze medal in junior women's epee event courtesy of Thi Luyen Nguyen.
