The talents of our Southeast Asian athletes were felt at the 2017 YONEX All England Open. The tournament was held at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, England from March 7 to March 12.Leading Southeast Asian region is Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia. He emerged as champion of the men's singles event after beating China's Yuqi Shi in the finals, 2-0 sets. The scores were 21-12 and 21-10.Another Malaysian players who made thru the final event were Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh in the mixed doubles event. But the faith of the tandem were not as lucky as Lee Chong Wei as the duo were overpowered by the Chinese tandem of Kai Lu and Yaqiong Huang. The Malaysian tandem placed runner up.Aside from Malaysia, Thailand player was also seen in the final day of the competition. Ratchanok Intanon competed in the women's singles against Tzu Ying Tai of Taipei. She lost the championship title in straight sets 16-21 and 20-22. Intanon settled for second place behind Taipei's Tai.Lastly, making the Southeast Asian region more powerful in badminton is Indonesia. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon partnered with Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo dominated the men's doubles event. They overpowered the team of Junhui Li and Yuchen Liu of China in straight sets 21-19 and 21-14.Singapore also participated in this tourney.
