Malaysia and Singapore bowlers were crowned champions of the 43rd MWA-Singha Thailand International Open Bowling Championships Men's and Women's Open Masters 2017. The event was held at Blu – O Ratchayothin in Bangkok, Thailand from April 5 to April 16.Zulmazran Zulkifli captured the men's title after beating Rafiq Ismail 242-161 in the all-Malaysian final match.
Zulmazran pocketed the top prize of THB 300,000 which is approximately US$8,700 while his fellow bowler Rafiq settled for half of the top prize money. Meanwhile, Hardy Rachmadian of Indonesia placed third to win 75,000 Thai Baht.PWBA Rookie of the Year - New Hui Fen of Singapore won the women's open masters title beating Syaidatul Afifah of Malaysia, 233-198 in the final match.
Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia and Sin Li Jane of Malaysia placed third and fourth respectively. While Tanaprang Sathean of host Thailand landed for 5th place.
Bowling will be featured at the 29th Southeast Asian Games to be hosted by Malaysia this coming August. Eleven (11) gold medals are at stake for this sport at the biennial meet.
